Writer and Director Richard Linklater

One of my Austin hometown heroes is writer and film director Richard Linklater, who is known for his hit movies such as “Dazed and Confused,” “School of Rock”, “Boyhood” and many more.

This painting is inspired by Linklater’s little known first full-length film, which he wrote, directed, and mostly acted alone in: “It’s Impossible to Learn to Plow by Reading Books” (1988), and in which the audience mostly watches Linklater going about mundane daily processes and traveling alone.

This painting is the last one i made in 2020, and it kind of wraps up the mood of the entire past year for me.
