This painting of an upturned stagecoach wheel is inspired by an opening scene from “4 For Texas” 1963 movie Directed by Robert Aldridge, and starring Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Ursala Andress, & Anita Ekberg. I watched this movie while recovering from the 2017 Lubbock Arts Festival, supposing I was just wasting time because the plot is ludicrous and it was obviously filmed nowhere near Texas; almost a total disaster of a film (11% rating on Rotten Tomatoes) However the cinematography by Ernest Laszlo is lovely and it did not take long for me to see an image that I wanted to paint. Also, there may have been some subliminal significance the artist at the time…
