These gentlemen from the Raramuri tribe in northern Mexico are all suited up to run long distance, like one hundred miles or more at a time. Take special note of their handmade huarache shoes.
After reading Christopher McDougal’s bestselling book “Born to Run: A Hidden Tribe, Super Athletes, and the Greatest Race the World Has Never Seen” and communicating via the Internet with featured personality “Barefoot Ted,” for more than seven years now, I have run in hand-made huaraches consisting of two 1/16″ vibram rubber soles topped with leather and two shoestrings.
I have a lot more to say about this painting but it will have to wait ’til later; long story…
